Abstract:
The world is culturally heterogeneous, and its cultural diversity forms the foundation of intercultural communication. This type of communication involves interactions and relationships between people from different cultures, who are also bearers of diverse cultural identities. This article aims to analyze the relationship between cultural identity and intercultural communication. To achieve this, it will address the following objectives: clarifying the meaning of cultural identity and intercultural communication; identifying the challenges encountered during intercultural communication; outlining the principles of effective intercultural communication. To achieve the proposed goal, the study is based on specialized literature on intercultural communication and cultural identity. The main research methods used are: analysis, synthesis, comparative method and deduction. Cultural identity refers to identifying with a particular group or feeling a sense of belonging to a specific culture. It can be differentiated by various cultural elements, such as language, traditions, customs, and norms. An individual's cultural identity develops through interaction with others within a unique sociocultural context. This identity, in turn, establishes a framework for the process of intercultural communication. To prevent or overcome intercultural conflicts, it's crucial to communicate effectively with people from other cultures. This effectiveness relies on recognizing and respecting the validity of diverse cultural meanings, value systems, and worldviews. Ultimately, intercultural communication fosters cultural understanding and rapprochement among peoples by facilitating mutual knowledge. UDC: 316.72+316.75+316.776; JEL: M14, Z13
